I have the best memory of her teaching me how to make a strawberry sandwich: Butter two slices of bread, top with freshly picked strawberries, sprinkle with brown sugar, and let the “party in your mouth” begin!
My grandmother loved strawberries so much that she organized a Strawberry Festival every summer in my grade school gym and wore her handmade berry brooch proudly. One year, I was appointed to be the strawberry mascot! From that point on, I was always curious about my relationship with food and body. I was fascinated with the nutrition piece of this complex “health and well-being puzzle”.
Climbing Mount Everest doesn't happen overnight. It takes time and patience. My ongoing support will be key on your journey as you “climb” to better your relationship with food and body.
I encourage everyone I work with to take “Home Ownership” and declutter what no longer serves them.
Fast forward to 2013, I listened to my calling and became a Registered Dietitian. Here I am now, thankful for the opportunity life has provided me to pick my own path as the founder of Berry Intuitive Nutrition Counselling.
My grandmother’s legacy lives on as I wear her berry brooch proudly!
It had been foretold.

My Story
I’m Chantal, the heart and soul behind Berry Intuitive Nutrition, ready to share a slice of my story with you. It took me roughly thirty years to have a positive and loving connection with food and my body. Like so many, I allowed diet culture and body size negativity to get in my way.
Flashback to my undergrad degrees in Human Kinetics and Nutrition Sciences, where I felt a strong pressure and emphasis to be fit and eat “clean”. I’ve always lived in a relatively small body but in the past, I never felt thin. I viewed the thin mold that diet culture promotes as a measure of my worth. I felt pressured to fit into this “mold” at all costs.
My perspective began to shift when I realized that controlling my body image, size and food portions was a form of suffering. This mindset shift lit a fire inside of me to help others who are suffering with problematic eating.
After having our first child, I had a clear lightbulb moment where I promised myself that I wasn’t going to get in the way of our little one’s natural intuitive powers. By engaging in my own therapy, and listening to the Food Psyche podcast by Registered Dietitian Christy Harrison, I was able to take the steps to begin my own healing journey. It became clear that I needed to let go of restricting and dieting for good! I decided that I was going to lead by example and practice Intuitive Eating, wholeheartedly. My guiding light has become my passion, and I have stepped into my purpose as a non-diet dietitian.
From then on, I immediately shifted to a weight-inclusive approach in my profession and became a Certified Intuitive Eating Counsellor.
I bring to the table a unique perspective of what body acceptance and body appreciation truly means, as I have personally traversed this wild and beautiful journey. I’m grateful to have rediscovered food freedom by acknowledging and letting go of the cultural idea that thinness equals happiness, success and beauty.
In a nutshell, that is how I got here. Today, my wish is to inspire you, and remind you that YOU ARE WORTH IT.
Diet culture is the water in which we swim ~ I'm here to teach you how to ride your own wave!
Let’s embark on this intuitive transformative journey together with love, respect and a whole lot of sweetness!
With Love, Chantal
